That Account You Followed
You start following a new account on social media because your friends are always sending you the jokes and the jokes make you laugh. You follow it for a while and you laugh at the jokes and send the jokes to the same friends who would send you the jokes and other friends too. You watch the account’s following grow.
Later, you start to scroll past it when you see it. The jokes become tired, the content becomes stale, they start trying to sell you things. You unfollow and you forget it existed and that you once saw it every day.
You see a coffee table book that looks familiar in the local bookstore. You pick it up and remember the account you used to follow. You wonder if you know anyone who would appreciate this as a gift. Then you wonder if someone will give you this as a gift, and if you’d keep it if they did.
